Нertz Yuri
Soviet Ukrainian painter. A follower of the “Manail” tradition of spirituality and nationality in painting. Master of multi-figure genre compositions, natural and urban landscapes. A painter of folk beliefs, rites, customs and everyday life of the Carpathian land.
Born in 1931 in the village Lokhov (now Transcarpathian region, Ukraine).
From 1947-1955 he graduated from the picturesque department of the Uzhgorod School of Applied Arts. Teachers in the specialty – Joseph Bokshay, Adalbert Erdeli, Fedor Manaylo.
Since 1957 – was participant of regional, since 1967 – All-Ukrainian, since 1978 – international art exhibitions.
Since 1969 – was a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.
Since 1990 – was Honored Artist of Ukraine.
Laureate of the National Prize of Ukraine named after T. Shevchenko for 1994.
In 2003 – was awarded the title – People’s Artist of Ukraine.
The artist’s works are kept in the Art Museums and private collections in Ukraine and abroad.
He died in 2012 in Uzhhorod.
